About Us

Southern Connecticut Women's Health Care Associates is a practice of obstetricians and gynecologists located in Milford, Connecticut and Westport, Connecticut. All procedures, deliveries, surgeries performed within the Yale New Haven Health System. Our doctors' mission is to empower women to care about their health, and encourage them through education and partnership. We offer progressive care through a combination of current technologies that blend with our highly skilled doctors and surgeons. The goal is always that our patients will be well-informed about their health, their options for treatment, and their rights as women to choose their healthcare options. The practice is focused in four areas of women's health, including obstetrics, gynecology, surgery, and ultrasound. The practice's services range from consultation to emergency surgery. In between, they offer women a full range of care and treatment that covers most everything women need.

Southern Connecticut Women's Health Care Associates revolves around our remarkable female doctors, Dr. Mary Murray, Dr. Erika Schaeffer, and Dr. Fariha Khan. Together, these compassionate and caring women provide a place where women's health matters and where other women can feel safe to talk to female doctors about the details of their lives and health. Their combined experience spans more than 50 years.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Murray, MD, FACOG

Mary Murray

MD, FACOG

Dr. Mary Murray offers both knowledge and experience to her patients at Southern Connecticut Women's Health Care Associates, located in Milford and Westport, Connecticut.

Dr. Murray earned her undergraduate degree from Mercer University and her M.D. from the Georgia Health Sciences University. She continued her education at the Medical College of Georgia with an internship in Family Medicine and then a residency as an OB/GYN at Albert Einstein Hospital in New York.

Dr. Murray has been board certified as a doctor for nearly 20 years. She served as the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Milford Hospital and also at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

In nearly 20 years of being board certified, Dr. Mary Murray has cared for women's health issues, talked with, diagnosed, and helped women achieve optimum health. She believes that women's health is important because women face health and healthcare issues that are dynamic, and always changing.

In addition to providing world-class care, Dr. Mary Murray offers minimally-invasive gynecological surgeries so women recover faster, have less pain, and can lead normal lives. Dr. Murray also is one of the few surgeons who performs robotic surgery, which is on the cutting edge of Obstetrics and Gynecological technology. In fact, Dr. Murray is the first surgeon in Connecticut to perform the uterine sparing fibroid ablation Acessa® Procedure. She has trained using the daVinci robot to give her patients the highest quality care and takes great pride in the amount of training she has done to provide this service.

Dr. Murray is a member in good standing of the Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG) who also awarded and recognized her research work involving HPV.Dr. Murray promotes both preventative care and surgery as well as a host of other services that help women obtain optimum health. She believes there is room for both prevention and surgery in the realm of women's health, especially since women's bodies undergo such radical changes as they age. Surgery is often necessary when dealing with women's health issues, such as fibroids, cancer, and pain. Prevention is a key foundation for keeping women healthy and plays a center-stage role in how Dr. Mary Murray cares for each of her patients.

Erika Schaeffer

MD, OB-GYN, FACOG

Erika Schaeffer, MD, is an OB/GYN at Southern Connecticut Women's Health Care Associates, serving women in Milford and Westport, Connecticut. Dr. Schaeffer is passionate about advocating and supporting women through every stage of their life journey, whether that be in adolescence, marriage, divorce, pregnancy, menopause, or beyond.

Dr. Schaeffer received her undergraduate degree in Bioengineering from Syracuse University in New York and has worked on several projects dedicated to the restoration of degenerative joint function with hip and knee replacement implants. It was during this time that she developed her passion for the medical field.

She then went on to earn her medical doctorate from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was immediately drawn to orthopedics, but after her rotation in obstetrics, she was moved by the experience and the opportunity to support women and their families during their most vulnerable moments. This close relationship between patient and doctor has become integral to her philosophy of practicing medicine.

Dr. Schaeffer completed her residency and served as a chief resident at Bridgeport Hospital, a part of the Yale New Haven Health System. She is FLS certified in laparoscopic surgery and is proficient at robotic surgery utilizing the da Vinci® Surgical System.

After growing up in Trumbull, Connecticut, Dr. Schaeffer returned to the area to provide excellent OB/GYN care to the community in which she was raised. When she is not in the office, she is a new mom who enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.

Fariha Khan

DO, FACOG

Dr. Fariha Khan is an OB/GYN at Southern Connecticut Women’s Health Care Associates. She joins the practice having previously worked in private practice in Long Island, NY.

Dr. Khan received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Hunter College in New York City. She then went on to receive her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. She completed residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ in which time she also served as chief resident. She is board certified and a member of the Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). She is FLS certified in laparoscopic surgery.

She has a deep commitment to promoting women’s health and focusing on prevention as a key aspect of their healthcare. She enjoys seeing women through all stages of their lives and being present for their different milestones from adolescence to motherhood and beyond. She strives to provide compassionate evidence based care to improve their health and quality of life.

When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 boys. She is an avid runner and loves to cook.

She is looking forward to serving the women in this community. She welcomes patients of all ages for routine exams, contraceptive management, obstetric care, and other gynecological concerns.

Christine Proulx

APRN

Christine Proulx is a family nurse practitioner at Southern Connecticut Women’s Health Care Associates, serving women in Milford and Westport, Connecticut. Chrissy earned her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Connecticut and her Master of Science in Nursing from Sacred Heart University.

Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Chrissy worked as a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital at the Women’s Care Center caring for pregnant women, postpartum mothers and their newborns and women recovering from gynecological surgery. Chrissy has worked as a nurse practitioner for the past 8 years with the last 2 years as the sole provider in the Postpartum Wellness Program at Bridgeport Hospital. She provided postpartum follow up care to women and their newborns 3-7 days after discharge, focusing on physical and mental well-being as well as offering lactation support.

Though Chrissy has a passion for caring for women in the postpartum period, she is also an advocate for health promotion and prevention in all her patients.
